Holy Angels at Stann Creek Chess Day

The Holy Angels "Knightmares"

Participated in the SCCA chess day expecting to place in the top three positions given that they had already taken the top four position at the Belmopan Chess Day. After playing four rounds of intense blitz the Holy Angels "Knightmares" once again showed that they are worthy opponents.


Gilbert Parham and Rick Pascasio playing to determine who will capture the first place position in the blitz tournament, from which Gilbert Parham once again took the first place in another chess day blitz tournament.Rick Pascasio took second place while Kris Sanchez took third place once again like they did at Belmopan chess day.

Holy Angels at Belmopan Chess Day !!!!

Holy Angels Chess Team with their hard work and dedication in playing the game of chess has once again showed that they can really represent their school and the Stann Creek District in the game of CHESS !!!
The Belize National Youth Chess Foundation held the first ever Chess Day in the country of Belize and hosted the first ever "5-Mins Blitz" (rapid chess) tournament for two categories.
15 and under

The Holy Angels team signed up for the "5-Mins Blitz" and each captain player knew that they had the potential to win this category.
The Schools four senior captains : Kris Sanchez, Rick Pascascio, Fitzroy Chan and Gilbert Parham knew that they will be facing each other nevertheless, were prepared to do so.
New to the Captain level is Luis Tut ,whose performance at the "SCCA Chess Camp " was excellent ,was also willing to enter into the blitz competition.
After four rounds of 5 -Mins blitz ,the standings are as follows:


1 st Place: Gilbert Parham


2 nd Place (front left): Rick Pascascio
3rd Place(back left): Kris Sanchez

4th Place (up front left): Luis Tut

The Holy Angels Chess Club completed its signing up for this year and new players are mostly young females who are interested in playing CHESS. Therefore, addition to the coaching staff, along with Mr. Cornelius Cayetano, is teacher Ms.Jenia Jenkins.

HOLY ANGELS IS COMING!!!!!!!

The Holy Angels team has practiced and prepared for this National Chess Tournament .Finally, the day has arrived, that which ,they have all been waiting for, the day when they face off and mentally battle fellow chess players from across the country of Belize.Then the games started Holy Angels players played the game they love , how they knew how to play it and most of all they knew that they would NOT lose, for in chess there is no losers only learners. And so the learning process begins.



The Holy Angels challenged and played their full 5 rounds making themselves worthy opponents, fellow District team mates played each other as the games became intense.from which :

HOLY ANGELS TOOK TWO FIRST PLACE OF THE FOUR AVAILABLE CATEGORIES.

RICK PASCASCIO - The Stann Creek District champion proved himself once again on the playing board of chess. After 5 undefeated games Rick placed frist in category of 13 and over.
KRIS SANCHEZ- The Holy Angels Primary School Chess Club Champion ,again proved his familiarity with the game. Kris also had 5 undefeated games in his category of 11 and under.

CONGRATULATIONS KRIS and RICK!!!!!!



Gilbert Parham-Took best Sportsmanship in his 13 and over category.Gilbert you have demonstrated the true qualities of a chess captain of the Holy Angels Chess Team.


Overall the Holy Angels in a team effort with 17.5 points proved themselves as a team .They worked for, and acheived ,1st place in the TOP TEAM CATEGORY!!!

These gentlemen will now take positions as "captains" of teams.Biggest upset of the tournament was done by new comer Fitzroy Chan who defected District Champion "Rick Pascascio".Gilbert Parham new blood to the game also has demonstrated in his play the qualification of ranking in captain category.Chris Sanchez, proved the Champion that he is being undefeated in the 5 rounds Swiss System used in the tournament.Chris is also the ranking second in Belize's 12 years old category.Melvin played consistently and carefully maintaining his present captain position .

The Club is made up of four teams

Saturday the 15th of March 2008 Holy Angels School will be having its first "School Chess Tournament" where the top four players will be "captains" of the teams and will be representing Holy Angels School in future School Tournaments.

The Holy Angels Club
takes this opportunity to say "THANK YOU" to Mr. Raul Avila who have generously sponsored the medals/awards and food for the chess players of Holy Angels School.

Additionally , "THANK YOU" must also be expressed to The Citrus Company of Belize Ltd. who have cotributed to each paritcipant of the tournament school equipment and juices , along with a sport cap sipper for each player to drink their favorite "Caribbean Pride Juices", the official drink of the "Holy Angels Chess Club".

Below the chess players discuss and plan their moves as they prepare to take on the Little Harbor School of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Little Harbor School ventured into correspondence chess against the Holy Angels School and their club is made up of four teams also,as such four games are being played and moves are being emailed to each other. The Little Harbor coach Mr. Steve Schulten ensured that the relationship with his school and Belizean based schools like Holy Angels are established and what more than "corespondence chess".
